HILL OF GIANTS RELEASES TWO FULL LENGTH ALBUMS
Two full albums may seem like a lot for a band making their recording debut, but the material on Hill of Giant's two newly released CDs: Eureka, and Simple Songs, represents the culmination of over a decade of playing and writing music.
Bob Globus and his cousin Tony Cario have been playing music together since they were kids. Now accompanied by Alison Globus on electric bass and Brad Vetch on drums, Bob and Tony have realized their dream, a solid rock band that plays music that is both physically and spiritually moving.
"I want to point people towards Jesus." Says Bob. "I want people who are trapped in a negative place to turn the corner and start considering the positive or at least the possibilities."
For Bob, Tony, Alison, and Brad, Hill of Giants is a way to find harmony between their love of music and the spiritual calling that drives them in their lives.
↓ more ↓Each member maintains an active participation in their local church, outside of their work with the band and playing at various Christian organizations. "If I wasn't doing this I would probably be a pastor somewhere." Says Bob.
Simple Songs, the first of Hill of Giants two CDs contains 7 original praise and worship songs. The band delivers fresh new songs like "Joy Unspeakable," and "Give Thanks to the Lord," driven by rock guitar and Alison Globus' frolicking bass lines. Each song is delivered with moving energy and an obvious joy that is addictive to the ear.
With Eureka, the band's second CD, Hill of Giants has released 12 alternative/ rock tracks which draw upon their faith for inspiration but also showcase Bob's skill for writing thoughtful lyrics to accompany their music.
The songs on Eureka range from up-tempo rock to slower, soulful ballads. Tony Cario's drum work on both albums creates a pulse over which Bob's lyrics and his guitar work flow like poetry. Behind the guitar Alison Globus hovers her bass along each line creating a poly-rhythmic harmony that is energetic yet soothing.
Hill of Giants is as much about their faith as they are about music. "It's really about those God moments," Says Alison. "When you just feel his presence all around, when you see him working. Just awesome."
"I want to people to feel the music and get lost in it." Says Bob, and its difficult not to get lost in the music, as Hill of Giants redefines the way many of us think about Christian music creating a harmonic combination that could be at home in any venue.
Still, the spiritual guidance and inspiration that led Hill of Giants to this point is never far from their music and each song serves as a testament to their faith.
"Music allows us to speak to people in a way that no other medium offers." Says Bob, "People will remember a song or a tune long before they would remember a sermon or a conversation." Tony Cario has also felt a spiritual calling to his music. "I really enjoy playing music and leading others into God's throne room of worship."
Hill of Giants' new recruit, Brad Vetch, has helped the band to reach a new level of complexity by allowing Tony Cario to return to keyboards. From now on, the band's live shows should have even more depth than their albums.
Brad sees their music as a way to reach out to people and change their
lives. "We want to tell people about God and how you can change your life by accepting him as your savior."
After a long road, Hill of Giants is still only at the beginning of their career. With two new CDs and a renewed sense of purpose, Hill of Giants in poised to bring their music to the people. Eventually they plan to tour full time. "I love the ministry opportunity." Says Bob, "I just love performing and watching the response from the audience after a great song with a thought provoking message."
