Upbeat, funky indie rock
Bio / Background
The members of hi five have all known each other in various ways since grammar school. Although the band did not begin to play live in Baton Rouge or New Orleans until the fall of 2004, the members have all been involved in the New Orleans music scene with prior bands Class Act and Sam Sarah. Hi five initially emerged as a two-piece drum and guitar collaboration between Scott Sibley and Owen Sketchler but today exists as a four headed dragon with the additions of Jeffrey Aymond on second guitar and Jason Ryan on bass. Although the band is dispersed between Baton Rouge and New Orleans at any given time, hi five has established a headquarters inside of a humid cave in Baton Rouge that is fully equipped with ample recording devices and musical gear. Inside the humble abode, hi five has completed the recording and production of their first full-length album.
↓ more ↓Throughout this recording, the band has remained a present and positive force in the New Orleans and Baton Rouge music scene and will annually depart to foreign land for further musical engagements.
Each song of hi five’s is meticulously handcrafted and textured with layers of guitar; all the while the process is monitored by a series of checks and balances, much like a political system, with Owen Sketchler reigning supreme chief executive. Together, the band has created an onslaught of funky rhythms that hit the listener with a musical ensemble, gyrating the buttocks and leaving the listener searching for a glass of water. Upon listening to hi five, one can never be too sure of one’s surroundings. Hi five gets jazzy. Hi five gets dirty.
