Bio / Background
HELICONIA have five new tracks available for download only, the band's first material since the release of their debut album Glad You Were Born on Isolation in 2006.
The band's guitar-driven sound has been described as neo-shoegazer and likened to Ride, Slowdive and Catherine Wheel, as well as Explosions In The Sky and post-rock metal bands Isis and Second to None. The (mostly) London band have gigged extensively with German electronic artist Ulrich Schnauss and recorded for Isolation and AC30.
On their latest tracks, Heliconia build on the sound they created on Glad You Were Born; combining raw, riff-laden melodies with stoner sinister grooves and distortion alienation.
The tracks are: Your Face; All I Want; Our Little Secret; Hole In My Head; Find Myself.
Glad You Were Born has received some great reviews:
"Glad You Were Born is just a great album ... This is what I have been waiting to hear, a band who embrace the early 90s shoegaze movement and one ups it to a new level.
↓ more ↓"My mp3 player will wear out its batteries on this album. Buy it, download it, steal it! Just get it!" (Explosions In Space webzine)
"All of the songs have a definite edge to them, with layered melodies and a sense of the sinister pervading even the jauntier, poppy tracks. It’s great. If you have any taste in music whatsoever, give it a go. And if you enjoy the likes of Ride and Slowdive (and you should) you’ll love it." (Die Shellsuit webzine)
The band’s corrosive take on Ride classic Drive Blind for the AC30 compilation Never Lose That Feeling was described by starvox.net as “adding a dreamier/druggier edge to the original".
