Bio / Background
Phyllis Heitjan was born on a snowy day in Los Angeles but grew up in Pennsylvania and New Jersey and now lives in Valley Forge, PA. She started learning guitar at age eight, made her debut as a solo performer at eleven, and wrote her first song shortly thereafter. She has been busy all along, playing and singing at festivals, community events, clubs, and street venues.
Phyllis's songs are elegant, clean and melodic, with lyrics that are poetic and literate but always fresh and honest. The words speak of deep emotion - pain and loneliness, leavened by hope and the possibility of love. Her arrangements illuminate her unique and heartfelt lead vocals with bursts of choral harmony - all the creations of her own mind and voice.
Her performances call to mind Sarah McLachlan, Michelle Branch, Tori Amos and The Corrs, but a more apt comparison for her songwriting is the early work of Elton John - simple and familiar,
yet utterly unique.
↓ more ↓Phyllis produced her self-titled debut album, composed all the music and words, sang all the vocal parts, and played most of the instruments.
