Bio / Background
HEAP is a rock 'n roll band from New York City.
Brooklyn, to be specific.
HEAP ON THE CHEAP features material by the current line-up, as well as material recorded with Mickey Leigh (Lester Bangs' Birdland, The Rattlers, STOP!) on guitar and Pat Carpenter (STOP!) on drums.
THE BAND:
Tim Heap (vocals and guitar) Tim came to NYC in '92 and has been writing songs and playing gigs with the band since '95, eventually moving up to featured and supporting slots at Irving Plaza, The Knitting Factory and CBGB. Tim is primary songwriter for Heap and does a fine job writing about what he knows best - his friends, his girlfriends and the girls that will never be his girlfriends (listen: Puerto Rican Girl).
David Merrill (bass and vocals) After joining Lester Bangs' Birdland in 1977, Dave went on on to play with Mickey Leigh in The Rattlers and toured with The Ramones, The Clash, The Buzzcocks and many others. As a recording engineer he has worked with Keith Richards, REM and many others.
↓ more ↓He joined with Heap in 2000 and is co-producer and engineer for HEAP ON THE CHEAP.
Frank Saitta (drums) After touring as a drum tech with The Ramones, Frank collaborated with C.J. Ramone for the debut album by Los Gusanos, drummed in The Plug Uglies with Handsome Dick Manitoba and Andy Shernoff of The Dictators, and in STOP! He joined Heap in 2002.
George Chambers (lead guitar and vocals) George played in a variety of hardcore bands in the '80's, and noise/art outfit Splungent in the early '90's. He played guitar with Heap from 1997-2000, before leaving the band to live in Dublin for a couple of years. George returned to the band in 2003.
