"A leading exponent of San Francisco's prog rock renaissance is Griddle. Last week's show at the Voodoo had the boys playing the varnish off of their instruments -- fists were pumping, sweat was flying, and everyone at the bar was singing along. This isn't like old-fashioned prog. No falsetto tales of orcs and snow-dogs and dryads -- the voices are meatier and throatier, and the wood nymphs are replaced with evil bosses, futons, and Humphrey Bogart."
"Loops and samples bouncing off the ceiling. Atmospheric swells growing in, out, and over to the back of the room. Jagged guitar lines slicing the speaker cones. Raging torrents of Jamersonian bass knocking over tables. Toms of Bonham. And throngs of onlookers bobbing in the liquid sweep, reaching for wall hangings to establish a mooring, gasping for breath.
