This is rock and roll music. Pure and complex. Music for the body and music for the mind.
Bio / Background
"When Grenwich Meantime kicks in with "Make It Rain" off the band's self-titled debut CD, it's clear this quintet is unabashedly rock 'n' roll.
Forget about the increasingly wide range of niches such as emo, alternative, punk, goth and other labels used these days. Brandon McDonald sings (without yelling), Eric Torcasio and Phil Vandermost play solid lead and rhythm guitar that is not disguised behind multiple layers of distortion and overdrive, and the rhythm section of bassist Scott Von Kaenel and drummer Nick Hoffman play with the kind of expertise that draws natural comparisons to the engines that drive U2 and the "Some Girls"-era Rolling Stones.
There are traces of soul and R&B ("Bourbon Street") and modern rock ("Back to Nowhere"), but Grenwich Meantime succeeds by somehow fusing the old and new into something that is solidly the outfit's own"....The Orange County Register, 12/13/02
"Los Angeles' own Grenwich Meantime just might be one of the Southland's best kept secrets.
↓ more ↓Watching them onstage, one gets a feeling of what it must have been like to hear the Replacements for the very first time. But this local five-piece is nowhere near as unstructured as the 'Mats were. Meantime is loose, earthy and louder than bombs, with a laid-back coolness about them. Imagine the Foo Fighters and Wilco getting together for a whiskey-fueled battle of the bands...watch them gel together on stage and you'll swear they're going to be the next saviors of rock"....AOL/Netscape Digital City, October 2002
BIO:
Grenwich Mean Time is the spot on the Earth at 0 degrees longitude, the spot where time begins, in a sense. It's a fitting name for this band, because it is also a new beginning. Rising from the ashes of several LA bands, the members of GMT all came together looking for something new. And that's exactly what they found.
Combining their unique individual styles (and record collections), they've created a fresh sound that is bound to rattle your bones and shake your hips and make you feel something. This is rock and roll music. Pure and complex. Music for the body and music for the mind. Its sheer power needs to be experienced to be understood. And if you see them live then you will experience it...and then you will understand.
Grenwich Meantime...finally, a rock and roll band.
