Bio / Background
WISDOM DAYS (released late 2005) is the sophomore CD from midwestern singer/songwriter Kathy Greenholdt and her newly-named Americana band, The Edsel Bros. If you liked the first CD, you may like this one even more.
The CD takes its name from the first track, "Wisdom Days," which, along with much of the album, addresses universal questions most prominently faced at mid-life. This is no accident, as Kathy crossed over to age 40 when she was writing all of the songs.
With this album, Kathy's notably acoustic band adds a few extra layers to the recording, variously including vocal harmonies and additional instruments, such as electric guitars, drums, and violin.
The resulting CD features simple, honest music that ranges from quiet Americana confession to rock-pop declaration.
In an April 2006 media overview, David Byrne of Chicago's Windy City Times wrote:
"Chicago’s Kathy Greenholdt and the Edsel Brothers offer a unique twist. . . .
↓ more ↓Most artists out there have been honing their craft since their twenties or teenage years; Kathy felt this urge at 38. . . . On the band’s second effort, the song “Little Man” challenges those who oppose same-sex marriage. Kathy sums it up by reflecting, “I don’t understand why people can’t let other people be happy. If you are against gay marriage, then don’t marry somebody who is gay.” The title track “Wisdom Days” and “Dark, Dark Hours” are other strong points on the set. The former is a pure Americana rock song that could only stem from the Midwest, while the latter is hauntingly personal, showing Greenholdt’s knack as a songwriter."
