Anthemic guitar driven rock music a la the early 90s (or late 80s underground scene, if you're that cool.)
Bio / Background
This EP signaled a conscious choice to do things differently.
It took about eight hours to capture the basic tracks for The Burning Candle EP.
Dissatisfied with the laborious and often times unfruitful process of letting an engineer or producer put sounds to tape, Grackles' frontman John Huston took up the task himself.
The idea was to get back to the quick and honest, "capture it while it's happening" style of recording. Once the original tracks were down on tape, the results were dumped onto a computer and simple overdubs were completed in Huston's home studio in Chicago.
While the band's first album, "Honeypot," was made up of poppy catch-fests, the new songs were more complex. Some noiser, some alternating more violently between hushed vocals and angry lashings. But the key to the band's new sound was the focus on background vocals.
↓ more ↓Furthermore, a variety of unusual microphone choices and placements allowed Huston to capture his guitar's unusual ferocity as well as the uniqueness of his voice.
The Burning Candle EP is the first in a series of six-song EPs the band plans to release -- one every nine months. When it's this easy, why not flood the market?
