Bio / Background
George Hartline grew up in rural Northeast Alabama in the town of Section. It was a very small town, and after graduation from high school and years of music experience ranging from church choir to marching band to rock bands, George moved to Tuscaloosa to pursue a degree in music. During these years, George wrote several of the songs that are currently on his 2004 album "Waiting for Summer".
A trumpet player by degree, George performed in the University of Alabama's Million Dollar Band for 3 years, the U of A Wind Ensemble under Dr. Jerry Welker, and the U of A Jazz Ensemble, directed by Dr. Tom Wolfe. It was during this time of study that George broadened his outlook on musical content and form and began to reflect his jazz influence in his work.
After teaching Spanish at Fort Payne High School for the 2003-2004 year, all the while gigging as a solo performer, George was activated with the Marine Corps to Iraq for an 8 month activation period.
↓ more ↓While in Iraq serving in a convoy security billet, George also led the worship team and music at the chapel on base, performing several concerts as well as church services. At the end of the tour, George was invited out by a Naval chief, Ryan Krause, to help with music at a Generations Church in Temecula, CA. After prayer and consideration, George packed up his car and drove out.
Currently George lives in Murrieta, California. George is quickly becoming a regular to the Southern California music scene with his acoustic/jazz/jampop sound that reflects his influences, The Dave Matthews Band, Sister Hazel, Counting Crows, The Eagles and John Mayer but adds his own "southern" flavor that makes it a little more his own sound. With uplifting and spiritual lyricism that subtly exposes George's Christian beliefs, values, and struggles, George's music attempts to break through the boundaries of genre.
