Moody cosmic lyrics, soaring and searing guitar from a 35-year veteran of many long strange musical scenes.
Bio / Background
Gary M Hall first picked up a five-stringed Roy Rogers guitar at age 5. He played violin for the Omaha Youth Symphony Orchestra, but the call of "Day Tripper" lured him away. Tired of practicing violin for 1/2 hour a day, he switched to the guitar at age 13, which he played non-stop for the next thirty-five years. Other instruments followed, and Gary was glad to lead them. Through several decades he played in a variety of constantly-performing bands, including Highway Call, Hot Lettuce, Opie, The Groove Dudes, The Raiders of Time, Too Smooth, and others. It was in the 1970s that his Claptonesque style and tendency to walk into walls led to his baptism as Slowhead. Through the 90s and beyond, Gary performed with various theatre orchestras, with and without make-up, for shows such as "The Who's Tommy", "Hair", "The Rocky Horror Show", "Footloose", "Crazy for You", "The Civil War", "Pippin", "Godspell", "Children of Eden", "Grapes of Wrath", and other shows.
↓ more ↓Gary's composed hundreds of songs, instrumental and lyrical, in a variety of styles, though most commonly in the style of the Grateful Dead, Mark Knopfler, or Eric Clapton. Unpredictable lyrics and flowing guitar abound. Gary records digitally under his own name, and still under the name of "The Occupants", and recently released his fourth CD of original recordings, the upbeat "Occuparadise" from his home in Estes Park, Colorado. His first CD, "Occupantaloons", was released in early 2003, the second, the sometimes bittersweet, sometimes raging "Colonel Pecker's Homely Parts Club Orchestra", in October of 2003, and the third, the dark "Occupantional Hazard" in 2004.
