A smooth blend of blues, funk, rock, and soul that will make you forget all about this new-wave 80's crap.
Bio / Background
I was first exposed to music through my mom and dad. My mom put on tons of salsa and merengue records, she is where I get my latin rhythm from. She also played alot of flamenco jazz records and carribean music. My father was into bands like Chicago, Phil Collins, Journey, Eric Clapton, The Eagles, and others. From that base of music, I did what every other kid does... I discovered punk rock. I got into bands like Operation Ivy, Subhumans, AFI, The Vandals, Social D, The Sex Pistols, and others. That led me to ska and pop punk which, strangely, lead me to metal and hardcore. I got into bands like Converge, Every Time I Die, Cave In, Children of Bodom, In Flames, Slayer, Pantera, Metallica, etc... And even more bizzare, metal lead me to blues, funk, rock, jazz, and reggae. For the past few years, I have been into bands like Dave Matthews Band, Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, Joe Cocker, Robert Johnson, Eric Clapton, The Beatles, Albert King, Muddy Waters, B.B.
↓ more ↓King, The Meters, Bill Whithers, and other blues-rock-soul brothers.
I've played in many bands throughout my life and have had countless jam sessions and collaborations with other musicians. In my teens, I was the drummer for "Shawcross", a hardcore band from Orange County, CA. After graduating highschool and going to Chico, CA for college in 2002, I formed a funk/reggae band called "Casual Sex" with Joe Hardeman of "Decline of State" and Adam Walter of "Chingus". It was the first time I had ever been the songwriter/guitarist/singer in a band. We played many shows in northern California. Shortly after forming "Casual Sex", I began drumming with hip-hop/rock outfit "Pyrx" for about a year. "Pyrx" also played a ton of shows and college parties throughout northern California.
After about a year with both bands, I decided it was time to leave Chico and get back down to Socal. I recorded "Demo 2005", a five-song demo in which I played all instruments, and started playing solo acoustic shows. I then formed "Spoken Soul", a blues/rock/funk band with Reza Saleh and Doug Clawson. We played a multitude of shows in a short span of time at places like The Brown Derby, Hangar 1018, Highland Grounds, Taix, Smooth's, 14 Below, The Stone Bar, B.B. Kings Blues Club, Surf City Saloon, Taboo Lounge, Marlin Bar, and more. We were also house band on Friday and Saturday nights at Jimmy's Bar & Grill in Fullerton, CA for 3 months. "Spoken Soul" parted ways in May of 2006; since then, I have been playing solo shows as a one-man-band. With my trusty Boss RC-50 Loop Station, I create live loops on stage of percussion, guitars, bass, keys, and vocals. I play originals and covers.
I just recorded my debut EP, "Into The Noise" which will be released in Christmas of 2006. It will be available for purchase online by January 2007.
