If the Deftones, Taking Back Sunday and Smashing Pumpkins had a child, it just might be The Frail Division.
Bio / Background
The Frail Division was born on a sleepy sixteen-hour road trip from Arkansas to Colorado in the summer of 2002. Two nineteen year old musicians and best friends talked the night away about what they loved as well as hated about today’s music. By the time they saw the Sun come over the Rockies they realized that they saw eye to eye on the musical movement they wanted to be a part of.
From there everything seems like a blur of recording sessions and tour dates. Frontman Preston Palmer and guitarist Ben Ghormley came home from that trip to join up with longtime friend and drummer Justin King to form their original band “SingleMinded.” Using the bassist by committee theory, SM tore their small state of Arkansas apart with their music and their relentless promotion. Matt Kennett joined SM to solidify their line up. Shortly after that they release their first album “Dysphoria”, selling a thousand copies basically out of the back of their van.
↓ more ↓The following year SM releases a follow up EP “RED” which reached the same feat as it’s predecessor. They spent a lot of 2004 on the road for 80 plus dates which includes a stint in Asia as well as showcasing at South By Southwest. Their fans have rewarded their talent and hard work as they have consistently sold out the top club in Little Rock every time they play.
The next puzzle piece was changing their name; “The Frail Division” became official in the summer of 2005. Ben Ghormley states, “The Frail Division is more than a name, it’s a movement we wanted to lead. A movement of music about real life by real people.” Their style of music has a way of making you think you know what it is but then not allowing you to put your finger on it. The Frail Division takes the Deftones, Tool, Smashing Pumpkins and Tori Amos and makes their version of mainstream music hooks. They are constantly touring the southeast making a bigger and bigger name for them.
The Frail Division has shared the stage with Chevelle, Seether, Shinedown, The Exies, Blue October, 10 Years, Future Leaders Of The World, Vast and many more. They are poised to make a run at what they’ve always wanted more than anything. To make music and play it.
