Bio / Background
These ragas soothe the senses, temper mood and gently guide the mind on a voyage to the heart of mystic India. Haunting refrains and mesmeric melodies evoke potent images of this sacred land : boundless azure skies, palm-fringed golden shores, psychedelic saris, sumptious spices, ornate temples and ageless sages. The tracks weave a rich tapestry through all the varied strands of vibrant and colourful classical Hindu culture.
The music captivates the soul, drawing it into a meditative trance reminiscent of 'samadhi', the bliss of the devotee and sadhu, yet effortlessly, without need for long contemplation. The sounds are inspired by, and celebrate, the serene and settled spiritual life found in ashram, Himalayan retreat and, particularly, that utopian idyll, "Auroville". One could say this album is a dedication to Sri Aurobindo, saint and founder of this 'golden town'.
