Bio / Background
A year ago, Evading Alastor was just four friends who loved playing music together. Now, a little over a year after their first practice, they've finished producing their first full-length album, and their energetic live shows are creating a buzz in their hometown of Albuquerque, NM. The past year has been an incredible journey for Evading Alastor, and the future promises to be even more exciting as they continue to win fans over with their music, one person at a time.
Evading Alastor's blend of energic, soulful alternative rock catches you the first time you hear it. Some of their favorite artists are Coldplay, The Used, U2, Sting, Dashboard Confessional, John Mayer, and Dave Matthews, and they unite these influences effortlessly in a style that is familiar yet entirely unique. The memorable vocal harmonies, moody piano parts, and melodic layered guitars combine with the powerful groove of the bass and drums to create an infectious sound that is dynamic and refreshing.

Their lyrics are deep, insightful, and personal. Comforting at times and painfully honest at others, they take the listener on a journey spanning the full spectrum of human emotion. From the carefree, exuberant optimism of songs like "Saturday Night" and "More" to the raw emotion of "With You" and "32 Hours", their music expresses and embraces the good and bad of life. "Life is complex. It's filled with contrasts: happiness and emptiness; passion and apathy; success and failure. We want to create great music that people will enjoy listening to while writing lyrics that speak about all of these aspects of life," says lead singer and guitarist, Justin Balthrop. So far, they are doing just that.
Evading Alastor formed at the beginning of last year, and they have played countless live shows since then, developing a loyal following. They recently took some time out from playing live to record some of the songs they've been playing for the past year. This Life, their self-produced, 12-song, debut album is scheduled for official release on February 26th. After that, they plan to get back to playing music for anyone who will listen. "We want people to hear our music. We love playing music because music affects people like nothing else in this world can," says Justin. "If our music affects people if it makes them think, makes them smile, comforts them or changes them then we've done what we hoped to do. That's what music is about for us."
