"Excellent space-age grungin' pop/rock..Seductive,wonderfully sensual,supa-cool and rockin' in the best possible sense..Its sleazy all girl band L7 after having a makeover, taking acid and becoming pop godesses...."
Editorial review
From the ashes of Detroit gothic rockers Caelum Bliss and the electro-tinged Deathgirl.com comes Ether Aura. Crash, their debut, is a stunning piece of neo-shoegaze dream pop, an invigorating if slightly derivative mixture of Curve and Cocteau Twins. Opener "All Doves Grey" sets the table for the feast to come: Tony Hamera's soaring, fuzz-drenched guitar couples with Bret Haupt's equally distorted bass, William King's nimble kit work underlines and punctuates the vibe, and Kate Hinote's emotion-drenched vocals top everything off, evoking the blissed-out sound of early-period Lush. Over the course of 11 tracks, this would get perhaps a little tiring, but Ether Aura mix it up enough to keep the listener on his toes. "6 Days Yesterday" is a straight-up pop song that would have been huge if My Bloody Valentine had kept making records and paved the way for bands like this to become popular. "Falling" sounds like what Cocteau Twins would sound like, had they continued their sound past Milk & Kisses. Fans of the bands mentioned as comparators here will be pleased. This is well-executed shoegaze, and there's not much of that going around anymore. ~ James Mason, All Music Guide
Bio / Background
Ethereal rock music that features lush, airy guitars, fuzz-bass, & hazy atmospheres. The sound of Ether Aura can best be described as an eclectic blend of early 90's shoegaze, dark alt-country, dream pop, and garage rock - with dark, emotional themes, swirling guitar effects, ethereal vocals, and fuzz bass.
"Partially made up of ex-members of 90s goth band Caelum Bliss, Ether Aura will likely please shoegazers, goths, and alt rockers alike with their debut, Crash. A heaping portion of Curve with smaller parts Lush, Garbage, and Cocteau Twins, Crash is a rhythmic, atmospheric slice of female-fronted, shoegaze-infused alt rock permeated by effects-laden guitar work and shaped into an almost undeniably impressive, if slightly derivative, debut. Immaculately produced with apparent attention to sonic layering and detail, it's a blend of more straightforward, bass-driven alt rock skeletal structures and swirling atmospheric guitar.
↓ more ↓Standouts here include the opening vocal-hook-laden, atmospheric rocker "All Doves Grey", the lovely, airy, very Cocteau Twins-esque "Falling", the killer bass groove and lead guitar work of the infectious "Once Shed Skin", and the reverb-drenched moody balladry of "I'm All You Need". The plodding rock of "About You" casts shadows of Lush, while "6 Days Yesterday" and "Why" are the disc's most upbeat, both poppy alt rock numbers that also recall Lush with Mazzy Star undertones. The latter, notably, contains a particularly hooky chorus.
"Hardly Know You" returns to hazy Curve-esque rock. The disc's title track, on the other hand, is a plodding ethereal ballad countered by a heavier chorus. The bass-driven "Waiting" comes in with a plethora of swirling melodic guitar, feedback, and string scrapes, coalescing to form a great delay-inflected atmospheric rocker, while the closing "In Oceans" projects an ambience similar to "I'm All You Need" and features some nice slide guitar.
In the end, Ether Aura's Crash is a very solid outing, both energetic and emotive, with a handful of particularly exceptional tracks that warrant plenty of repeat play. Curve fans will either love them or, given the reaction of many Curve fans to Garbage, point out their similarities to Curve every chance they get. However, that said, Crash is a spectacular and dynamic alternative rock outing with heavy shoegazer and goth leanings that's certainly worth a listen."

"I like this a lot! Good old indie rock, reminiscent of Rose Chronicles with excellent female vocals and fuzzy guitars. The songs are well written and well recorded. The lyrics are interesting and varied. A lot of that reverberated distorted guitar sound that the indie bands are so fond of. I swear this is like a new Kristy Thrisk project, the voices are damn close. There's really not much to say except that I really like this, and you will to if you're down with the indie rock thing. I thoroughly enjoyed all the tracks offered. I even like the name! This is my favorite review for this month, so if you agree with my review then give this a listen, you will not be sorry. "
