Bio / Background
Emmanuel Njoh Njoh was born in Bonewonda (CAMEROON-AFRICA), a beautiful village colorfully described by song writer and novelist Francis Bebbey in his best seller " Le fils d'Agatha Moudio" ( Son of Agatha Moudio). He grew up listening to thousands of melodies from his father: famous accordionist Franklin Williams NJOH ETONDE. As a child, he was particularly interested in learning the African communication drum called ELIMBI, and eventually became extremely skillful in playing it. He often made community announcements with it and performed as a percussionist in a big variety of groups. As a teenager, he became one of the best high school drummer of his generation, and was often invited to play in professional bands. He is the creator of the beat " Makossa pop" that was later called "Waka Waka" by his band leader and personal friend Ashanty Tokoto.
↓ more ↓As a young adult, he played in Lagos (NIGERIA) as a free lance drummer and often performed with famous african Jazz Guitarist Eugene Ndema, who encouraged him to become a guitar player by giving him his own 1970 Fender Telecaster, as a incentive. Strongly inspired by his guitar, Emmanuel Njoh Njoh became a song writer and a composer. He won the hearts of audiences in Kenya during his many performances in tourist resorts all over the country, playing his own songs. He later moved to the USA and formed the Makossa group: " Africa Longo". Emmanuel Njoh Njoh, also called "Emmanu", Brought back to the African music its old tradition of aiming not only to entertain, but also to educate. He strongly believes that a positive change in the african social behavior can also come from spiritual music. Consequently, he produced not only secular albums like " Hart-beat" and "Mother Africa" but also a christian one: "Jesus is Wonderful" .

Haven come from Cameroon and now listened to this album, the songs have given me hope that Makossa is once more on the rise. The blend between the traditional musical essences and what the modern ear is prepared to listen to makes these songs so acceptable to the tympanic membrane. Kudos to Emmanuel Njoh Njoh whom I had never heard of before. Skippamyke
