Bio / Background
Ed Teja began playing fingerstyle acoustic guitar in coffeehouses on the East coast of the US. Since then he has appeared in venues in California, Seattle, Boston, Hong Kong, Canada, Venezuela, Bequia, St. Martin (French West Indies), New Mexico and Texas. Although he hasn't always made his living from his playing, he has kept gigging.
He spent seven years playing at Caribbean waterfront bars, resorts and restaurants where he met T-Bone Fisher, who had studied with Brownie McGhee. Working together they they studied the techniques of Mance Lipscomb, Blind Blake, Big Bill Broonzy, Blind Boy Fuller and others. They started a blues festival in Venezuela that lasted for three years, becoming a major tourist attraction in the area.
Working with Austin-based harpist Jim Luke he toured Ontario, Canada, appearing on TV Ontario in Sept of 2002. He performed at the Silver City (New Mexico) Blues Festival in 2003 and 2007 and the Tucson Folk Festival in 2006.
