Part psychedelic, part downright folksy, with a social conscience for the world in the 21st century.
Bio / Background
Ed Perrone has been creating music since his pre-teen years. Coming of age in the 1960s and '70s, he was immersed in the hippie/folk/psychedelic music and culture of the era: Jefferson Airplane, Grateful Dead, Santana, Crosby Stills Nash & Young, Bob Dylan, Pink Floyd, Yes, Jethro Tull, Jimi Hendrix, Cream, Beatles, Rolling Stones, Led Zeppelin... And, like most teenage boys in those years, he was eager to pick up a guitar and learn to play like his heroes.
Musically, it was a highly eclectic time, a time of experimentation in many different directions simultaneously. The music of a single band could range from acoustic folk and pure vocal harmonies to psychedelic guitars and other-worldly synthesizers -- all on the same album! A true product of his era, Ed continues to reflect those divergent influences in his music today, writing songs that range from quiet country-folk vocal pieces to hard-edged blues-rock guitar instrumentals to mellow New Age synthesizer works.
↓ more ↓Ed's most recent work, culminating in his 2006 CD Holy Wars, is his most socially oriented music in decades -- perhaps another reflection of his roots in the protest and socially conscious music of the '60s and '70s. The four songs of Holy Wars, written and recorded over the period of a year, express Ed's concern about the directions that society is taking, but end on a decidedly optimistic note.
"It's been a long time since I've written a 'socially conscious' song," Ed says. "So if I'm worked up enough to write another one, that must mean I think the issue is really important..."
Ed's music has been licensed for use in stage productions, films, and TV shows. You can find more information about him and his work at his website, www.edperrone.com, and at his MySpace page, www.myspace.com/edperronemusic
