A flavorful blend of traditional Afro-Cuban music and modern salsa.
Bio / Background
This Oakland, California-based band offers up their first CD, self-titled “Oriente Algo Viejo, Algo Nuevo”, featuring original compositions in traditional and contemporary styles as well as classic songs from Cuban son and New York salsa.
The lilting rhythms of son, danzón, guajira, cha-cha-chá and modern salsa carry you away to a place where your heart beats a little faster and your feet just can’t keep still! The band’s seductive, tropical sound draws you in like an invitation to a walk on the beach at sunset.
Lead vocalist Norma Arias is a revelation and her warm contralto helps give Oriente Algo Viejo, Algo Nuevo its signature sound. The unique ensemble includes violin, flute and saxophone, trombone, piano, tres and guitar, bass, conga, timbales and bongó. Pianist Mike Crager provides fresh and original arrangements and compositions.

A good combination of classic latin music with some contemporary sounds...
