2. To add (music, speech, etc.) to a film or tape recording.
Sonata: n. (suh-nä'ta)
A composition for one or more solo instruments, one of which is usually a keyboard instrument, usually consisting of three or four independent movements varying in key, mood, and tempo.
Dub Sonata is a name you should get familiar with. Born and raised in New York City, this up and coming producer has pumped out songs for dozens of artists you like and just released a full-length project entitled "Dub Sonata Presents: On The Arm," which showcases his production and features an wide assortment of artists. Dub officially began his music career in '99 after being introduced to the art of production by a friend. From a young age he was heavily influenced by music and listened to a wide selection of genres ranging from hip hop and heavy metal to folk and reggae.
↓ more ↓Dub tried playing several instruments but never found the focus to succeed until he was 18 when someone put him on the boards and showed him what it was all about.
Soon after this he quickly bought an MPC2000 and a Yamaha RM1x and never looked back. His initial source of inspiration came from producers like DJ Premier and other sample-heavy beat crafters. He attended SUNY New Paltz briefly but left to pursue a career in music and business.
He spent the next few years living in various locations, the whole time putting in work and stacking beats every day. In 2002, the Mes Hall studio opened its doors in Mt. Vernon, NY. under the ownership of fellow producer Big Phat Mes, who Dub met back in 6th grade. They started recording songs with long time accomplices Skinny Joints and DVS (Deadly Divisionz) and the OD Fam (Rich Mo, Preacher Bishop, J-Starrs & Tru). Dub was also recording relentlessly with Double A.B., who he met while living upstate. After eventually meeting more artists like Dom Pachino, Nature and J-Hood amongst others, Dub spent 2003-2006 in the studio non-stop, going weeks on end without seeing the light of day.
The end result was a new producer with a sharpened style and a large amount of fresh music the world is just starting to hear. With a refreshing New York sound, Dub Sonata is hoping to quench your thirst for good music. He currently works out of the Mes Hall and Basshedz Studios with partners Phat Mes and Joey T. Recently Dub has been promoting his new album and is working on a follow up slated to be released this coming winter. He has also licensed some of his music to VH1 for some recent reality shows and is planning on releasing a full length instrumental album in early 2008.
