Francis Doughty's debut CD release, "Among Trees", presents 13 original finger-style instrumentals performed on acoustic (steel-string) guitar. This is evocative guitar music. Each song is a character piece written in a style that both stands on its own, while reflecting influences of folk, classical and American blues.
Sweetly lyrical and evocative, with changing rhythms and subtle syncopations, while his upbeat tunes tend to draw more from the guitar's percussive character.
From the Renaissance lute music of John Dowland to contemporary guitar instrumentalists John Fahey, Leo Kottke, Peter Lang, Ed Gerhard, and a host of others, the garden of Finger-Style Guitar Instrumentals continues to expand and flourish. Francis Doughty's music takes you to another part of that garden.
Beautifully recorded, his guitar sings -- the harmonics sparkle like stars on a cold night.
