Bio / Background
Doc Jazz is a Palestinian born in exile in 1968 in the Netherlands, and is a surgeon by profession. In the Netherlands, he is also well known under his real name (Tariq Shadid) as a writer, speaker and debater on TV and radio for the Palestinian cause. Besides this, he is a songwriter, musician and singer.
Originally, all of Doc Jazz's songs were written, played, sung and recorded by himself in his home studio (demo quality). Publishing these demos on the web under the umbrella of his website project 'The Musical Intifadah', these demos were frequently downloaded, and the website became a well-known beacon of musical resistance.
Recently, Doc Jazz has released his new CD 'Front Door Key', on which 12 of these songs were professionally produced by Forrest Thomas, featuring a stunning array of professional musicians, like Susanne Alt (alto saxophone), Michelle David (backing vocals), Keith Keyes (bass) and Eddie Conard (percussion).
