Described by the artist as "A Meditation In Nine Acts", Bremsstrahlung is a continual suite of nine ethereal, hypnotic, ambient soundscapes by composer/musician David Gerard that will take you on a mesmerizing sonic journey
Bio / Background
Composer/musician David Gerard ended his last CD
with the Tangerine Dream homage, "Scattered Fre-
quencies" - a sprawling, ambitious number which
harkened back to the days of TD albums "Rubycon"
and "Stratosfear." Messrs. Froese, Baumann and Co.
continue their subliminal influence on "Penumbra"-
the opening track on Gerard's third CD release,
"Bremsstrahlung." This time, taking its cue from
"Force Majeure", a blistering lead guitar trades
off with shimmering keyboard filigrees. Turns out,
"Force Majeure" was the first TD album Gerard ever
owned, while a kid in high school. The new disc
gleans a variety of aural inspirations, including
Kraftwerk, "Airport"-era Brian Eno, Alan Parsons,
and a little known but historically significant
outfit called Mother Mallard's Portable Master-
piece Company. Its founder, David Borden was a
pioneer in the field of electronic music, and has
become somewhat of a mentor to Gerard, who heard
Mother Mallard on a streaming website.
↓ more ↓After con-
tacting Borden, a retired music professor at
Cornell University, a dialogue began, with Gerard
sending Borden files of his music for feedback.
"Dave has been tremendously supportive of my work,
even likening some of my compositions to vintage
Mother Mallard stuff, which for me was an amazing
compliment" says Gerard. Referring to the new CD
as "A Meditation In Nine Acts", "Bremsstrahlung"
is presented as a continual musical suite, with
each track flowing perfectly into the next. While
continuing to eschew the usage of any syncroni-
zation programs, the overall production improves
upon "Ambientism" - revealing Gerard's progress
as an engineer as well.
