A modern approach to old school metal: solos, melody, harmony, breakdowns, singing and screaming.
Bio / Background
Derision is a modern approach to old school metal. Formed in November of 2001, four friends decided it was time to share their music with someone other than the rural residents of Tyler, Texas, who had the local sheriff on speed dial whenever that “damned rock and roll music” started to pour from the abandoned cellular control station. Derision recorded a self-made demo in the comfort of a 1979 single wide trailer, using the finest equipment the local Radio Shack could offer for a crisp $20 bill. Armed with hundreds of freshly burned CD-R’s, a shiny new website, and a convoy of gear-packed sedans, Derision began to spread through Texas with an insatiable urge to play for the next big crowd.
The word of Derision spread, and the crowds followed. The $20 demo along with the local buzz pushed Derision on stage with nationally touring acts such as Hatebreed, Candiria, 36 Crazyfists, Trivium, God Forbid, and Pissing Razors.
↓ more ↓Radio stations began to catch on and Derision’s entire 4-song demo secured airtime in 4 states. Derision knew it was time to release a professionally recorded CD.
Couch cushions flew as Derision scoured the earth for the money required to release a professional recording. In an effort to escape the regurgitated tone of many metal recordings in the market today, Derision decided to work with Casey Diiorio of Valve Studios. Bending the “rules” of what metal should be, Derision released an LP that appeals to both mainstream and seasoned metal listeners alike. The debut album, entitled The Fear is being purchased by new fans every day, as Derision markets their release though constant internet and street promotions.
As with many bands, Derision has seen their share of change. Though starting as a four piece, Derision has settled that their sound requires five members. After shuffling many members into the deck, Derision feels that they have finally found the royal flush. Derision is fronted by Jordan Smith, guitars are handled by Jeff Kelley and Kendrick Brown, Josh Payne brings in the bass, and the newest edition of Chris Smith keeps it all on time. Promising a high energy show full of swinging guitars, kicking feet, and banging heads, Derision makes sure that no fan goes home unhappy.
