Editorial review
Decidedly Midwest in their approach, the beer guzzlers in Deke Falcon serve up songs that are as immediate as a shot of Jack with a Budweiser chaser on Sand in the Shower, Rust on the Road. Surprising then, that they call Eugene, OR, home, but origins aside, these Deke dudes rock when they wanna. Just check the blistering "Picking Up Sticks in '96" and the muscular "Squadron" for evidence. Perhaps at times their roots rock approach feels dated (think Damien Jurado out in front of a .38 Special cover band), but frontman Patrick Hayden also has the courage to be introspective, leading his group through a somber keeper like "On the Roof." But at their core, Deke Falcon makes bar rock, replete with tinges of roots rock's country and blues elements. And sometimes that's all you need. ~ John D. Luerssen, All Music Guide
Bio / Background
"Deke Falcon's debut, 'Sand In the Shower, Rust On The Road,' plays like Dino Jr. circa 1985 covering Son Volt circa 1995. Which is to say that the boys of Deke Falcon rock their country tunes with an art-damaged fervor..."
--CMJ New Music Monthly #130
"My current favorite record, Deke Falcon's debut is the dream meeting of Dinosaur Jr and Uncle Tupelo; Sonic Youth and Gram Parsons. The Falcon plays country rock like it's art punk -- bristling and melodic, downhome and angular. Wilco is the only other band seriously attempting experimental alt-country right now, and Deke Falcon does it with the sound of SY's 'Dirty' and the Minutemen's 'Project: Mersh'. Standout Track: Squadron."

Eugene, Oregon's Deke Falcon is a sonic sensation constantly evolving through the collaboration of Patrick Hayden, Dave Clark and Jordan Glenn.
↓ more ↓Playing together since January 2004, each band member contributes diverse influences to the Deke Falcon sound, a mixture of emo, country, and rock 'n' roll.
Lead singer/songwriter Patrick Hayden heralds from northern New Jersey, but has spent his fair share of time in Tennessee and Oregon, soaking up experience. His heartfelt lyrics resound with the sentiments of introspection, and his distinctive songwriting style reflects his passion for Northeast hardcore, Sonic Youth and Gram Parsons.
Bassist Dave Clark creates a soulful foundation for the Deke Falcon sound. He's a native of the Northwest who has played in a punk band (the Danged), a blues band (Bourbon Renewal) and toured throughout the United States and Asia with a south-of-the-border dance band (Los Mex Pistols Del Norte).
Jordan Glenn is a steady hand on drums, a stylistic marvel, matching the rhythm of Clark's bass with his own artistic maneuvers on kit. Glenn is a student of the drums who has played in bands like the Visible Men (lounge rock), Scrambled Ape (cartoon, klezmer, Raymond Scott covers) and the Mann, DeRobertis, Glenn Trio (jazz).
The songs on "Sand in the Shower, Rust on the Road" recount driving from Jersey to Tennessee examining memories and rejoicing in the prospect of new adventures ahead. They tell of perceiving the world in a different light in the wake of a chance encounter on a rooftop, or surviving through the dark, cold and rainy season through sheer living. They sketch an American landscape of gas stations, luncheonettes, trucks and mud, and at times the narrator is haunted by the the smile on a stranger's face, bare legs in the sun and pretending books and records are all that matter.
But when it comes right down to the nitty-gritty, "Sand in the Shower, Rust on the Road" is good old rock 'n' roll, seeded with the twang of back-country guitar pickin' and the rumble of a power trio.
