Having grown up listening to rock ‘n’ roll, though, and having been a guitarist in various loud NYC avant-rock bands before he decided to fly solo, Brody missed some of the raw energy that only comes with a full ensemble.

As Brody navigated the constantly changing modern music industry he gathered together a dynamic, close-knit team that grew to become a true band of distinct personalities with all members making integral creative contributions to the songs. Drummer Jeff Olson has been with Jason from the very start, and has always been able to add a wide range of influences to the music. Jason met bassist Geoff Council several years ago on a Lower East Side bender with a mutual friend; Geoff joined the band in September of 2005 and brings to it great energy in both sound and spirit. Guitar/keyboard player Cary Hirschstein officially joined in early 2006, adding his knack for clever arrangements and hooky melodic ideas to the mix. Thus THE DEATH OF JASON BRODY, a quartet with a bigger, more dynamic sound, was born, and Brody felt himself come full circle, returning to the rock sound—albeit a more sophisticated one—he once shunned. The longer the foursome plays together, the more undeniable they become.

As the band was coming together the first TDoJB EP was being recorded. A self-titled six-song mini album was released in September 2006 and brought with it mature and multidimensional musical themes. "Siren Song," with its soaring vocals and lush arrangement, explores themes of lust and disconnectedness and evokes long days, boozy nights, and an overwhelming sense of longing. In the quintessential breakup ballad "Broken," strings and acoustic guitar vie to convey an unmistakable sadness.

The album expands on the unique sound evidenced in Brody's early efforts and reaches new levels of musical sophistication; it is the sound of a band coming together to achieve a shared vision. TDoJB worked with stellar engineers and producers to bring these recordings to life. TDoJB was co-produced/engineered by Geoff Sanoff (Fountains of Wayne, Hem, Astaire), and was also co-produced/engineered and mixed by S.F. Norton (TV on the Radio, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Jay Farrar/Son Volt). Engineer Dave Harman of Arcade Audio also lent his skills to the tracks "Call Off Your Dogs" and "Midnight Stroll."

TDoJB celebrated the new release with a triumphant performance at New York’s longest-running indie music/club night, Tiswas, in September of 2006, and more high profile performances are scheduled in and around the band’s hometown in the months to come.

Usually, the word "death" refers to the end of something. But in the case of THE DEATH OF JASON BRODY, death represents a new beginning.
