Hailing from the "little Beirut" of Portland, OR, Deadeye fights back with a no-nonsense, abrasive sound falling somewhere between NY No Wave and the dark side of 80's American post-punk. "Shitstorm" hits as hard as any Misfits track before escalating into a furious tailspin, while "Never Enough" channels the Dead Kennedy's sociopathic dance freakouts. Echoes of Mission of Burma's taut noise terrorism ripple through ("Nothing Less", "Burnside Glare"), and the bass heavy grooves that surface in most of these songs bring to mind Gang of 4's finer moments.
Deadeye isn't averse to effects and guitar solos, and when done, the overall effect is as pummeling and claustrophobic as Black Flag's later, more metal-inclined work.
↓ more ↓Refusing to be 'laid-back" and docile, Deadeye conjures a sort of black urban dystopia seldom heard in the NW these days, effectively functioning as a refreshing alternative to the endless barrage of confessional singer-songwriters and electronic noise experiments.- EXIT ONLY
---------------------------------------------------------
Gothic vocals, shredding fuzz, and a strangely melodic post punk rhythm section are the foundation of Deadeye’s debut, alpha.
Leading an old school punk rock sound hailing the days of New York no wave, with a progressive edge, alpha is as bleak and truthful as it gets.
With thick layers of psychedelic guitar fronted by a trademark baritone and a vicious melodic undertone, Deadeye is able to entangle the street smarts of the Murder City Devils with the force of a Joy Division. All while crafting an original, explosive rock album appealing to those left behind in the never ending rat race.
To put it another way, Deadeye’s alpha takes you to a time when the year was 1977 at CBGB; your about to hear something unknown yet reassuring to your place in the future world of violence and unrest.
Often described as “coffin punk” this tour de force of songs; will transport the listener through a wasteland of tortured souls. Like a dark, moody beast lurking below, alpha cracks through the clouds and reveals that tomorrow might be worse.
Here is an album that hides the optimism, yet reveals the truth. This is the album you will turn to when dark times are setting in. -ALEXFAST
