Dusty ballads and rural rockers, "The lyrics paint sobering pictures of shutdown factories on rundown streets, but the music never sags, capturing the spirit of hope and better times to come."(Performing Songwriter Magazine - Nashville, TN.
Bio / Background
Raised between the homes of a Detroit schoolteacher and an Upper Peninsula outdoorsman, Joshua Davis is the product of both city and country. An early interest in songwriting, country blues and finger-style guitarists paved the way for his original material, which is a seamless union of new and old. After six years and three albums as the primary songwriter and vocalist of the Michigan quartet Steppin’ In It, Davis tracked his first solo record, Fool Rooster. Recorded entirely live and in a few short days, Fool Rooster is a raw, earthy counterpoint to the world of processed pitch and studio tricks. The album is a collection of original compositions; vintage Americana, rural and urban history and autobiography bound together with wry humor.
