By layering multiple acoustic guitars, David Pritchard discovers patterns of repetition that lead one to listen intently yet provides a uniqely calming effect for the mind. Six of the pieces on Air Patterns are in this style of acoustic guitar ensemble music, with one track ("Dream Sequence") in the form of a classical guitar trio, while the other three pieces are all played on solo classical guitar with no overdubbing whatsoever. His exotic tunings yield shifting harmonic sounds that dart in and out of delicate melodic patterns. Pritchard's musical world comprises short melodic moments which emerge from his arpeggiated, rhythmically diverse environment, suspended in an atmosphere of hypnotic chord tones and ever-shifting rhythmic relationships. And the amazing part is that he not only conceived and "invented" the concept, but also plays all the guitars. Bio / Background
In “Air Patterns”, acoustic guitarist/composer David Pritchard creates a mosaic of musical landscapes accomplished through the intricate layering of guitar tracks. The hypnotic, mesmerizing musical landscapes are characterized by shifting overlapping meters and sparkling melodic patterns.
Pritchard’s jazz and fusion roots inform many of the pieces on “Air Patterns.” David has performed with vibist Gary Burton, ex-Mother of Invention Don Preston, pianist Billy Childs as well as recording two fusion jazz albums under his own name for Inner City Records which also featured Patrice Rushen and Freddie Hubbard. Pritchard’s current work is also featured on the latest CD “Spin” by the Los Angeles Guitar Quartet.
In “Air Patterns”, Pritchard has moved his musical course out of the jazz realm and into a new and unique acoustic musical environment. “Air Patterns” makes for an exquisite listening experience not to be missed.
