Acid Punk. Blending hot-rodded Euro-Rawk (Turbonegro, Motorhead) with Ole English Punk & New Wave (Damned, Public Image Ltd.). Add some goth, glam, & psychedelic embellishments and you got the dark and persuasive sounds of Blanche Davidian.
Bio / Background
Attack of the Killer is the debut album from Arizona's psychedelic glitter punks, Blanche Davidian. The 11 track CD was released on the band's own Exquisite Swine label. Each and every track was self-produced by Blanche Davidian at their own Sonar Digital Studios in Phoenix. Upon completion in the fall of 2002, they became one of the very few bands from the Valley of the Sun that would debut their live show with a finished product to market and sell.
Since their infancy, Blanche Davidian has gained a reputation as one of the best live acts in the Southwest. The amount of local publicity the band has accumulated is unmatched with positive press in every newspaper, fanzine, and tabloid based out of Phoenix, AZ (and many national publications including Maximum Rocknroll, American Music Press, and Skratch). The notoriety earned the group an opportunity to perform at the 2004 SXSW Musical Festival in Austin, TX.
↓ more ↓Blanche Davidian also appeared at the 2004 Phoenix New Times Music Showcase (nominated for Best Hard Rock) and has shared the same stage with such nationals as Melt Banana, Supagroup, The Bellrays, Jeff Dahl, & TSOL.
Part of Attack of the Killer's appeal is it's no shame genre-bending craftsmanship in each of it's eleven songs. Old school punk enthusiasts will recall The Damned's early years with songs like "Do Come" and the gloomy, yet upbeat "Ouija Boredom". "Oedipal Complexions" is a bit more stateside with it's snotty rant and hooky chorus, while "Robotussin" is demanding for it's rightful place on the next Fistful of Rock or Junk Records comp. "Petunia" & "A Genatallia Ballot" are the more danceable tracks with the potential to appeal to anyone following the recent disco-punk buzz. "Ben Wa Beets" and the goth-power-ballad "Just For Ewe", both with impressive leads and well rehearsed harmonies, could hold their own on the playlist of any commercial hard rock radio station.
Attack of the Killer CD review in AMP
American Music Press (national punk/hardcore monthly based in Martinez, CA)
11 tracks of driving rock. Lots of lead guitar, and a melodic shouter. A lot of the lead work reminds me of "Machine Gun Etiquette" era DAMNED. Looks like a self released effort, and it's all the better for it. ~ Ramsey Kannan
Attack of the Killer CD Review in MRR
Maximum Rocknroll (national punk monthly based in San Francisco, CA)
Their puns kill me. Every title has some sorta play on words, but when they get down to the rock, they get down to business. BD's driving beats, noodling, persistent tambourine and heavily reverbed vocals crank out some catchy anthems, classic rock, and twisted walls of sound. At times I hear HUSKER DU, JANE'S ADDICTION, and QUEENS OF THE STONE AGE. Good. ~ Hal MacLean
Attack of the Killer CD review in Slam
SLAM magazine (Phoenix, AZ monthly)
For the $8 price tag, there's no reason not to have Attack of the Killer in your CD collection. If there's any justice in this world, the people who aren't buying it now will be really pissed off that they can't get it and brag to all their friends once some record label snatches up Blanche Davidian and this diamond in the rough disappears forever. ~ Harrison Krell
