Rock with a world beat sensibility, island rhythms, guitars, percussion and harmonies.
Bio / Background
Raised in Puerto Rico, David Sasscer began playing guitar and writing songs in junior high, performing at parties and surf contests throughout the island. He moved to Atlanta to attend college where he founded his first rock band, The Twelve Inch Singles sharing the bill with local favorites such as Love Tractor, Arms Akimbo and the pre-fame R.E.M. Sasscer had several songs on local rotation at WRAS and WREK, but his drive to further develop his music and his career soon led him to relocate to New York City.
After David moved to New York, he slowly established himself as one of the most rhythmically attuned singer/songwriters playing the NYC circuit. His body of work runs the gamut from straight ahead rock to pop/reggae with lyrics in English and Spanish. Throughout his performing career he has never stopped writing and recording. His official output only represents a small portion of his work since he has kept countless songs in his vaults.
↓ more ↓Just as importantly, Sasscer has always continued to explore new musical territory, from pop/rock to reggae to rhythmic theology. Throughout his career, Sasscer has alternated between periods of "woodshedding" and recording broken up by a stint living in Europe and periodic tours within France and the US.
In 2001 David teamed up with folk-rock legend Ritchie Havens to co-produce a musical television show, which, so far, remains in the vaults. He has also pitched his original songs to best-selling artists such artists as Nora Jones, Carlos Santana and The Baja Men. David is currently working between New York and Nashville assembling a new collection of his songs for release on an upcoming CD.
