CHRIS DARROW- The release of two musical anthology CDs that feature songs from Chris’s past. The first, CREATIVE OUTLAWS: US underground 1962-1970, includes a Darrow original, Keep Your Mind Open, by the Kaleidoscope. This song is #19 on the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame list of the best psychedelic songs of all time. The CD includes Jimi Hendrix, Country Joe and the Fish, The Fugs, Canned Heat , and Tiny Tim. The second, Country and West Coast: The Birth of Country Rock, includes another Darrow original, Beware of Time, by the Corvettes. The band, which later became Linda Ronstadt’s band in the late 60’s and early 70’s, was produced by former Monkee Mike Nesmith. This CD includes The Everly Bros., The Byrds, The Flying Burrito Bros., Gram Parsons and Gene Cark, amongst others. Chris currently records for the TAXIM label in Germany and they have released more than a dozen projects from the Darrow oeuvre. There are two new releases forthcoming.
↓ more ↓The first, Wages of Sin, is a duet album recorded with Chris’s long time singing partner and Claremonter, Robb Strandlund. Robb was a member of the Rank Strangers, The Flying Burritto Bros., and the writer of the Eagles classic song, Already Gone. The record was recorded in Claremont at Pebber Brown’s studio, PB Studios. The second, The Floggs, is Chris’s pre-Kaleidoscope band, recorded in 1964 in Pomona in a studio that was upstairs from, what is now, the El Merendaro restaurant. This will be the first release of this material and has a number of songs that appear on the first Kaleidoscope album, Side Trips. The entire Kaleidoscope Epic Records catalogue, a 3 CD collection, Pulsating Dream, has recently been released on Acadia records in England. Chris and one of his songwriting partners, Eddie Cunningham, have a song in an upcoming Disney movie, The Last Mustang. The song is called Get Back on that Horse and Ride. Another song, Factory Girl, is up for a film of the same name, based on the life of Andy Warhol’s diva, Edie Sedgewick. The song was co-written by the incomparable, Kim Fowley, Connie Mardon and Chris.
EDDIE CUNNINGHAM-A California native, Eddie is the son of a hillbilly trucker, steel worker, gambling, teamster man & a Marilyn Monroe with red hair. Eddie began his singing/songwriting journey as a child some thirty years ago. Eddie has shared the stage with many great artists like Garth Brooks, Brooks and Dunn, Montgomery Gentry, Mary Chapin Carpenter, Bryan White, Joe Diffee, Aaron Tippin, Gary Morris, Jim Lauderdale, Keith Anderson, Trick Pony, Boy Howdy, Big House, and the list goes on. In 1996, 97, Eddie was named Songwriter of the Year & Male Vocalist of the Year by the California Country Music Association. Eddie won First Place at the Country Star "Country Music Showdown" sponsored by the Country Star Restaurant in Hollywood. Eddie sang The National Anthem before a packed house at a Los Angeles Lakers Basketball game. He won the 2000 Jim Beam Country Band Search national talent contest and earned the title as The Best Unsigned Artist in America. Eddie was a brain child in beginning stages of The Gram Parsons Notebook a CD co-written with Gram Parsons (through his last written words) a journal that was willed to his friend John Nueese. It topped the Americana charts and his song “Jesus Is More Than A Name” was and co-produced with Grammy winner Carl Jackson (the album was up for 3 Grammy nominations) it features Marty Stuart, Ricky Skaggs, Jim Lauderdale & The Elvis Band just to name a few. Other songs to note: “If You Need a Miracle” (Ben E. King) / “I Was Taken” (Moe Bandy) / “Bad Cowboy” (Jenny Slate) / “Lay Your Burden Down To Die” (Mark Insley). Eddie has co-written with some of the best songwriters in the business including: BMI “2003 Songwriter of the year” Jeffrey Steele, Grammy winners Wendy Waldman & Desmond Child, Country music hall of fame legend, A. L. ”Doodle” Owens, Mentor Williams, Kostas, and many others.
Eddie appears in two new independent films of legendary record producer and songwriter Kim Fowley and has several songs in both movies. The first one is ”JUKEBOX CALIFORNIA”, an arts & crafts musical collage starring Don Calfa, Patrick Brayer & John York. filmed by Roy Swedeen in the beautiful landscapes of Southern California’s Inland Empire. Eddie appears in the film showcasing his singing and songwriting, abstract art, cooking skills and comedic personality. And the other one is “OUTLAWS IN AMERICA” Eddie Plays a crazy hillbilly hitman. Eddie likes being a funny guy; in fact you may have caught him getting his chest waxed on an episode of “Jay walking” with Jay Leno on NBC one night. They played it four times, once in slow motion. Jay couldn't believe it didn’t seem to bother Eddie, as Eddie replied after the rip, “Will this get me on Survivor?” Eddie has a very serious side to him too; you may have seen him on the NBC morning show Good Day L.A., promoting a peace concert dedicated to the 9/11 victims singing a song called "WHY", which he co-wrote with Grammy winner, Wendy Waldman after the Columbine incident. *News coverage September 11th, NBC News 4, 11:00pm, 2005
