What would happen if Heart and Melissa Etheridge had a baby that Aretha Franklin carried to term...? That baby's name would be Darci Monet...
TALENT is back.
New York State born-and-raised Darci Monet has been in demand as a professional vocalist since her college days at Belmont University in Nashville, TN.
↓ more ↓She has sung backup and/or recorded demos for such famous artists as Steve Winwood, Dolly Parton, Amy Grant, Kim Carnes and The Judds as well as some of the industry's most successful songwriters like Beth Nielson-Chapman (Faith Hill's "This Kiss"), John Hiatt ("Have A Little Faith In Me", most recently recorded by Mandy Moore), Alex Harvey (the classic "Delta Dawn") and John Swihart of Sonic Gravy Productions (composer for "Napoleon Dynamite"{, ABC's "Hope and Faith", CBS' "How I Met Your Mother").
Since moving to Los Angeles in 2001, Darci has released her critically acclaimed debut CD as a solo artist entitled "My Own Road" and is currently writing new songs for her sophomore effort to be released sometime in 2007. Her voice can be heard in the smash Fox Searchlight film "Napoleon Dynamite" (that's her singing "The Rose" early on in the film) and on the soundtrack to the critically acclaimed indie documentary "When Boys Fly". She has recorded several regional radio jingles, including Subway Sandwiches, and is hired regularly as a demo singer and backup vocalist. In January 2004 Darci appeared on - and won - the syndicated "Live in Hollywood" talent competition/variety show which aired on UPN affiliates nationwide (see the video at DARCIMONET.COM).
After "Live in Hollywood", Darci chose to switch gears and place her major focus on songwriting and freelance writing, which has turned out to be an unexpectedly fruitful decision. Most recently, a song she cowrote with her good friend and fellow indie artist Levi Kreis ("Just This Good") was performed by Levi on NBC's "The Apprentice", and other songs they wrote together ("I Should Go" and "Hardly A Hero"), also performed by Levi, premiered on NBC's "Days of Our Lives" and CBS' "The Young and the Restless". Levi also performed "I Should Go" and "Hardly A Hero" live on SoapNet's syndicated talk show "Soap Talk" (co-hosted by Lisa Rinna of "Dancing With The Stars"). Darci is also the author of a short story published in "Music Horror Stories: A Collection of Gruesome True Tales" (Goodnight Kiss Publishing, Los Angeles) and self-publishes a popular column on her own message board called "A Working Musician's Review", in which she critiques the contestants' performances on such shows as "American Idol" and CBS' "Rockstar" series. Darci states with a chuckle, "I've sold more CDs from writing those critiques just for fun than from any other focused marketing plan I've attempted...who knew?"
While she is content with a career out of the spotlight, Darci's first love is still singing and she is always available for studio and occasional live vocal work. She has built herself a reputation in the studio as "the one-take wonder". Darci is classically and commercially trained, reads music, can arrange vocal parts on demand and is as proficient on solo projects as she is in groups. Darci can handle all styles but excels in rock, pop and soul. You can also hear vocal demos Darci has been hired to sing at DARCIMONET.COM.
Finally, in her spare time, Darci has founded the non-profit organization E.C.H.O. (aka: the Entertainment Coalition for Helping Others), which brings together any and all involved in the entertainment industry to produce fundraising events and projects to benefit people in need. Darci also hopes to soon begin piecing together ideas for a fictional novel..."as soon as I come up with my own 'Harry Potter', 'Lestat' or 'Robert Langdon'," she says with a wink.
