Contemporary folk troubadour; a 20-year old singer/songwriter with a luxurious voice people say they’d listen to if he were singing a phone book.
Bio / Background
Daniel Kingsbury is a 20-year old singer/songwriter with a luxurious voice people say they’d listen to if he were singing a phonebook! His soothing and soulful sound grabs everybody, regardless of their age.
What defines Daniel is his mesmerizing songwriting(130 songs to date). The lyrics engage you, the narrative draws you in. The songs are fresh and new, timely and well-crafted, written in a very “strong on the basics’ storytelling style, deeply rooted in the best of the folk music tradition. His gift is making the unfamiliar sound familiar as if the song you’re listening to is an old favorite, even though you’re hearing it for the first time. Each song has distinct characters and messages and each song has a unique voice.
Daniel beckons you into the real world. People love his stuff because he validates how we live and love. He reels you in, sits you down, and pours it all out, which is very cool and totally unusual in an age of hard-edged attitude.
↓ more ↓He’s a 21st century troubadour extraordinaire.
In the music business where there is an abundance of "wannabees" or "soundalikes" a very important characteristic for a new artist is to be instantly recognized on the radio as unique and identifiable. Daniel Kingsbury is that artist.
Daniel has blown away audiences in San Francisco, British Columbia and Toronto. His debut album, “Caravan of Time”, is a mélange of songs written over a period of 4 years in British Columbia, Southeast Asia and Australia, starting with “Richest Man in Babylon” which he wrote at 16. Daniel weaves his socio/political awareness, his unusual grasp of the preciousness of life and the passing of time, and his deep appreciation and respect for the West Coast landscape, into the songs on this album. His unforgettable melodies, precise, acoustic guitar playing and heartfelt lyrics make this album a fantastic first for this new talent on the scene.
The instrumentation on "Caravan of Time" adds an extra special dimension to the songs. Playing with Daniel on guitars, percussion, and mandolin, is the inimitable Steve K and his multi-talented fingers. (check out Steve K on CD Baby!)
What else do you want to know about DK??? In 2006, four of his songs were used in the Canadian documentary film, “Hope for the Future.” Before he became a musician, he was a filmmaker, winning the 2002 Banff Mountain Film Festival award for Best Film on Mountain Sports, at the age of 15. He attends the University of Victoria in Victoria, British Columbia and if you want to see lots of pics or drop him a line, you can go check out www.myspace.com/dkingsbury.
