Bio / Background
From an early age, Dale Vincent's interest in music was intrigued by hearing a wide variety of styles that filled his family's home. "My parents had a reel-to-reel tape player, a turntable, and a huge amount of tapes and records to choose from. I would listen to artists such as Nat King Cole, Buck Owens, Chuck Berry and then put on an Everly Brothers album!" After watching an episode of The Glen Campbell Goodtime Hour, Vincent knew that the guitar was an instrument he wanted to explore. Dale's father let him borrow his 1963 Gibson Reverse Firebird guitar, and he started takings lessons at the age of seven, and started performing professionally at the age of fifteen. "I landed a steady gig playing on riverboats that would cruise around the three rivers that surround the city of Pittsburgh. I really think that experience honed my chops on the bandstand. Most nights I would play guitar and perform pop tunes, but other nights I would play the banjo in a dixieland band.

I was able to meet George a few times as a teenager, and on one occasion, he invited me to his hotel room and told me to bring a guitar! He literally spent an hour giving me tips and answered any questions I had. He is a very humble and thoughtful person, and his music and persona continue to influence me today." At this same period of his life, Dale studied guitar with jazz guitar legend Joe Negri. "I originally knew Joe from his role as Handyman Negri on Mister Rogers Neighborhood. Then, I found out that Joe was an incredible musician. I was lucky to be one of his students, and after all these years, he stills tears up the fretboard!" While studying with Negri, The University Of Pittsburgh Jazz Band was looking for a guitar player to accompany them on a two week tour of the Caribbean. Joe felt that Dale could handle the gig, set up an audition, and a few weeks later, Vincent found himself headed to the islands of Barbados and Jamaica. To see another part of the world, and experience a different culture at an early age, made Dale realize that music has far reaching affects. But music wasn't the only thing occupying Vincent's time as a youth. He also had an interest in acting, and began appearing in local and national television commercials, along with magazine ads that landed him in publications such as People and TV Guide. Another highlight was filming a segment with comedian Bill Cosby that was featured on The Captain Kangaroo Show. Seeing the technical side of video and audio production sparked Dale's interest in recording. Capturing ideas onto his first analog four-track cassette recorder was like moving to another planet. To this day, spending time in the studio is a passion that Dale continues to pursue. "I love the limitless creative ideas that a recording studio enables one to achieve, and with today's technology, anyone with a computer can have a studio!" Gaining a reputation as a stylistically well rounded guitar player, Dale started getting calls to do session work. To this day, he has played on over fifty local and national television and radio spots, as well as several independent films. Dale's home studio, The Magic Loft, was instrumental in the recording of his current CD, Blue Sky Flyin'. "Having a creative place to go anytime an idea might come around is something I cherish." These days, Dale is working on his next release and is always looking for new avenues to explore the possibilities of music.
