Bio / Background
Courtney Lemmon… when she sings, angels pause.
This emerging singer-songwriter has a voice that defies her age dream to have her music heard internationally. When Courtney performs, she shines and captures your attention with her gravitating stage presence. Her voice has a soulful feeling that is playful, wistful, optimistic and strong.
Courtney has been involved in bands and choirs since her early years and her vocal style ranges from classical to jazz, blues, rock, pop, folk, gospel and musical theatre. Her influences cover a broad range of artists that include Ella Fitzgerald, Billy Holliday, Janis Joplin and Fiona Apple. While she loves and listens to all music for inspiration, Courtney’s current musical focus is Jazz. Having graduated from the Jazz and Contemporary program at Manhattan’s prestigious New School University, Courtney is able to apply her valuable training to her thriving music career.
↓ more ↓She sings weekly at upscale venues with West Coast’s piano sensation, George Kahn, that include such clubs as The Jazz Bakery, Catalina Bar and Grill and French 75. She also appears as the only featured vocalist on George Kahn’s most recent album, rated in the top ten in Europe for 2006, “Compared to What?” singing the title song.
Courtney has recently completed her first album entitled “Stay With Me” working with Grammy award winning arranger and phenomenal sax player M.J. Acosta, who previously co founded the famous Brian Setzer Orchestra. Her title song “Stay With Me” received one of five honorable mentions in the 2006 John Lennon songwriting competition of thousands of entries in the category for Jazz. Courtney has also tapped into the independent film industry, writing and singing for the big screen with 4 songs in 3 separate independent films.
You can catch Courtney every week for her weekly radio segment “On the Move With Courtney Lemmon”, with Host Gary Hamada by visiting www.KRMLradio.com to see the schedule.
“With a sweet yet lonely voice, and a comfortably lazy feel on the beat, Ms. Lemmon shows much promise as she showed full command…”
George W. Harris ~ Jazziz
