Auto Biography -- Just like everyone who grew up in the USA during the baby boom, I listened to pop radio during the mid 60's, 70's, 80's & 90's and was influenced by Mowtown, from Earth Wind & Fire, Led Zepplin, Johnny Nash, Santana, James Taylor, Blood Sweat & Tears, Carole King, Chicago, Simon & Garfunkle, Tower of Power, Janis Joplin, Jimi Hendrix, Tomy James & the Shondells, Johnny Cash... ALL those people. I've learned the most the last 10 years listening to blues musicians like(now 75+ year old) Koko Taylor, BB King, Buddy Guy, Tab Benoit, Bonnie Raitt, Susan Tedeschi, Dinah Washinton and really more than I can name. MY MUSIC is NOT folk music, NOT country music (the country music scene in New Hampshire HATED me), and NOT acoustic. It's ELECTRIC BLUES & ROCK with horn, guitar, keyboard and harmonica solos,,, and NOT IN EVERY SONG. That's right folks, each song features solos from one or two instruments, NOT EVERY piece. Marty, my producer and I, agreed alot of blues recordings are redundant and that a major effort would go into making each song unique with rock, blues, jazz and gospel themes.

We recorded the drums, bass, vocals and guitar tracks for eleven songs during a 12 hour session on September 19, 2001 (8 days after 911) at a studio called Wellspring in Acton Massachusetts. Marty picked this studio for its sonic quality which worked particularly well with drums. He nailed down some great musicians such as Lincoln Schleifer on bass (do a web search on all these guys), and Marty Richards on drums, with later recording sessions at Marty's studio "The Shed" adding Chuck Langford on alto & soprano sax, Craig Stevens on keyboards and guest appearances from Michael Ruff & Maxaym Lewis. I wrote 6 of the 11 songs and Marty and I decided to include 5 covers crossing the blues genre by Koko Taylor, James Cotton/Junior Wells, Debbie Davies, Sapphire and Hank Williams.

At all band performances, I play the rhythm lines off this recording (and fairly well I may say) and rhythm guitar with every song we perform. I use a junky old 1965 Fender Jazzmaster and on occasion an equally junky 1963 Epiphone hollow body electric which gives GREAT feedback. I use a Music Man 212 or Peavy Delta Blues guitar amp with or without a Tubescreamer. Although I play primarily rhythm guitar, a live performance may include small moments of lead playing. I've got an easy going, "all inclusive" stage presence.

I'm the first to say that NONE OF THIS could have happened for me without the help and encouragement of so many people around me. And not just audiences but especially from OTHER musicians including my band members. I'm at a very BIG crossroads with music in my life. It's time to stop being a dabbler and make a commitment. My first CD symbolizes "stepping out" after "stepping back" for 23 years. I hope you enjoy this rare, long awaited moment and I want to encourage you to do the same and share it with others. Find your dream and share it. Maybe you could start by listening to the CD. Do it for your kids. I did it for mine.
