Bleeding Water, Cherelle's 3rd Indie cd is a smooth blend of indiegrrl rock full of expressive emtions that dig deep into the heart of introspection and unfold the world she lives in.
Bio / Background
Cherelle Jardine comes on with the rocking intensity of Sas Jordan and occasionally reminds the listener of vocal styles as varied as Chrissy Hynde, Carlene Carter and Sheryl Crow. It is more accurate to say that Jardine possesses the talent to become as successful as the above mentioned females to world wide music lovers. Singer, songwriter, arranger, producer.
"Perseverance pays off, if you believe enough in yourself." Cherelle exemplifies that. She's a strong determined woman, who loves what she does, and has every intention of succeeding.
The road towards a musical career began early for Toronto born Cherelle Jardine. At eight she was introduced to the piano at a friend's house and she was hooked. At fourteen she wrote her first song and three years later she began to play guitar.
↓ more ↓Aside from all of three vocal lessons in her life, Cherelle remains self-taught in music, noting that "lessons are good to begin with, to give you the fundamentals, but it's also important to explore what your heart and mind say, without rules, without restrictions."
After a brief stint in a band environment, with AZ IZ in 1992, Cherelle decided upon the solo route to pursue the rest of her career. Seizing the opportunity to trade volunteer time at Bullfrog Studios for valuable studio time, she recorded her debut solo release: 1993's Wanna Be With You, a six song demo. Cherelle also exercised the freedom of a solo artist to play wherever and whenever she could, growing more confident and honing her live skills with each performance.
In 1994, Cherelle released her first full-length CD Born Naked. Working with Producer Gerry Gagnon. Cherelle put together a strong "official" debut, which was praised by Bruce Allen, saying, "I enjoyed the voyage". Reviewers praised the album.
It was a busy time for Cherelle. The pace of her advancement as a professional musician quickened, with her acceptance to the board of the Pacific Songwriter's Association as Treasurer. Cherelle is active in the "behind the scenes" of British Columbia's musical community, having also been voted President of the Pacific Songwriter's Association in 1996 (as well as assisting in most capacities with the PSA newsletter Hook Line and Singer). In 1997, Cherelle also co-founded the Pacific Alliance of Independent Recording Artists, a non-profit society which co-ordinates the efforts of its members to network, support and promote their individual projects. Cherelle was also a director of Women In Music, and Salmon City Music, a Richmond, BC, based music group. Cherelle believes that the local music community should support each other in their career development.
Cherelle hardly paused for breath before putting together a new band which would showcase the new batch of songs that were to pop up on her second independently released CD, Something Good Is Happening in 1998, an effort which received similarly glowing reviews as Born Naked.
Bleeding Water is the 3rd CD in Cherelle's body of work. The new album is a departure for Cherelle, at least in terms of her development as a musician and as a storyteller. Cherelle retains the pop/rock sound her fans are familiar with, but adds a bolder mix of lyrical worldliness and emotional vision. Co-written with John Peacox, Cherelle has brought in some of the most respected names in Canada's music community to help interpret her new songs: Bazil Donovan (Blue Rodeo), David Sinclaire (Sarah McLachlan) Gerry Adolphe (Chilliwack, Jim Burns), Robbie Steininger (Megan Metcalfe), Steve Hall (Farmers Daughters).
