An exciting combination of two distinct writing styles - Woven offers a tasty blend of piano and acoustic guitar, enhanced by world percussion, topped off with colorful vocals, violins and sincerity.
Bio / Background
What sets Scott Chasolen and Katy Pfaffl apart from the rest? Through honest lyrics, bold and boundless melodies, and creative, surprising rhythms, these accomplished musicians use piano, guitar, violin, melodica and voice to tell the stories of their lives. Together this dynamic duo brings new life and style to the world of acoustic music.
Frequently seen playing at intimate venues throughout NJ such as the Luna Stage or The Grist Mill Café and also in NYC at the Rockwood Music Hall, Scott and Katy share their diverse act with a variety of listeners. A typical performance consists of a song-list comprised of alternating songs written by either songwriter, with Chasolen at the piano and Pfaffl on guitar. However, after a few songs, they switch instruments! Chasolen moves to the guitar, and Pfaffl to violin or piano, creating an entirely new musical environment.

It is their individual musical proficiency as well as the combination of different writing styles that create the core of this duo. Scott's music has many layers and surprises. His expressive lyrics as well as his grace on the piano display the depth and diversity of his influences, which include Elvis Costello, Steely Dan, Ben Folds and everything in-between. Katy Pfaffl writes with her own special blend of folk rock and jazz vocals and accompanies herself on guitar, piano and violin. Take the passion of Alanis Morrissette, the virtuosity of Alicia Keys, and the songwriting talent of Dave Matthews, wrap them in a tiny power-packed bundle, and you've got Katy Pfaffl.
Aside from performing as a duo, Scott Chasolen and Katy Pfaffl have their own separate musical projects. Scott, a jazz pianist and native of New Jersey and Pfaffl, a classical musician from Milwaukee Wisconsin met as a very unlikely pair. The two joined forces seven years ago while Chasolen was touring nationally with his original band, ulu and Pfaffl was starting her own project in NYC, the Katy Pfaffl Band. Since then both artists have released their own solo albums ("Solitude Speaks" by Chasolen - "Katy Pfaffl" and "As She Stands" by Pfaffl) and have recently released their first duo album, "Woven".
