Review by Rikk Matheson - www.rikksrevues.com
This is not music that you want if you're coming down off any type of high, but RAVE ON! This is some strange shit that not everyone is going to dig. If you are wondering what I mean, well the rhythm and the instrumentation is haunting, nearly mesmerizing, the vocals are abrasive, and the lyrical content is not only depressing, but as dark as anything else you will hear out there today, and those are the compliments I am giving to Suicide Sunrise, the new offering by Chadwick.
If you don't think that those are words of praise, you obviously are not into the whole, electronic, industrial, goth thing. At times the grooves can sound like Skinny Puppy, at other times they will venture into unseen territory, this is dark and as heavy as hell, I mean, this ain't metal folks so don't look for it, more like Skinny Puppy on tour with Marilyn Manson and grooving to Zombie on the bus.
↓ more ↓Does that get your senses tinglin'? Well folks, this is what the movement is all about.
Chadwick actually has you feeling and believing everything he throws at you, and not just a little, but he hooks you with an oversized gaff (gãf - A large iron hook attached to a pole or handle and used to land large fish). This is some extreme stuff, I know this is exactly what my parents would have screamed "Turn that noise down" up the stairs of my childhood home, as if I could hear them. Suicide Sunrise has some of the better modern Industrial/GOTH sounds recorded and it kind of leaves you wondering what Chadwick has in store for you down the road.
Don't let the cover art fool you, with just a bit of Tony Iommi influenced guitar (especially on "Three Kids"), this ain't no Black Sabbath, but yet you may wonder if Ozzy and the boys were just starting out today as a young band if this isn't exactly what they would have come up with, hmmmmm. This is some strange stuff for the experienced, not for the faint of heart, or the extremely depressed. Strap in tight, you're in for a rough flight!
