The music of Carter Corn is backbeat hugging poetry adapted to melodies and executed with conviction. Telling stories while making one dance infectiously.
Bio / Background
WWW.MYSPACE.COM/CARTERCORN1
Carter Corn is a songwriter who appears
onstage with a guitar, attitude, passion, and
lyrical accountability. Traveling and playing
all over the Southeast and parts of Europe have
only amplified the schizophrenia of diversity
present in his original compositions. Sometimes
you can hear the whisper of a child in his
voice, others, the sound of breaking glass in
the strings of his guitar. He is not the type of
performer who even cares what he is wearing
when he walks out among the sea of eyes in
the crowd. As long as I've been bearing
witness to the performances of this purvayor of
musical honesty I can truly say he does not
compromise his art for anyone. If the definition
of "selling out" is making as many people
think, smile, laugh, and dance as you can at a
gig, then Carter sold out years ago. When
genres are applied to a particular performer,
in order to prepare a listeners pallate for an
evening of music, it cheapens the experience. I
can only say for Mr.
↓ more ↓Corn that his musical
nuances give him away much better than a
defined genre. Acoustically speaking he
sounds like: Jazz, Calypso, Flamenco,
Funk, Folk, and West African rythms tied into
an argument in a blender.
Carter Corn was born in Boston, Mass. and
lived in Palatka, Fla. most of his childhood. He
moved to Gainesville, Ga. in 1989, lived in
Talahassee, Fla. for a year, then Augusta,Ga.
for two more. He attended Florida State
University, has a minor in music from NGCSU,
has studied classical voice, classical guitar,
upright bass, and music theory. Carter
currently resides outside of Atlanta, Ga.
