With a soul that one might compare to that of Smashing Pumpkin's "Mellon Collie...", El Motivo is a dark, heavy yet moving escape from the alt-rawk norm.
Bio / Background
“This album rocks from top to bottom!” -Mark Bistany, Puddle of Mudd/HedPE
"To any that may want to check out Cage9, the new release has a lot to offer the listener. Great production, good songs! Also great vocals and drums on this one."
-Chris Poland, Guitarist for OHM, formerly of Megadeth
"El Motivo rocks me straight to HELL!" Aaron from PRONG
After more than a year of recording and over 40 finished songs, Cage9 considers "El Motivo" its greatest triumph of perseverance to date. The album was self produced and recorded by Evan Rodaniche in the band's studio in downtown Los Angeles. The title "El Motivo" comes from a poem written by Rodaniche which appears in spoken word form in different languages throughout parts of the CD. The poem deals with the age old search for a reason to continue pursuing inspiration, against the challenges of modern existence - a theme echoed in much of the lyrics of the album.
↓ more ↓Also heard on this album in the form of keyboards, narrations and hidden tracks are members of Big City Rock (Atlantic Records), Ankla (ex-members of Puya), Your Horrible Smile, Kairos, Dig Jelly and more.
Cage9 moved from Panama to Los Angeles, California, in March of 2002. This summer the band got a new drummer, Warren Johnson, 25, who at the age of 16 toured with Dave Grohl's band "Scream" when Grohl left the band to join Nirvana. Original members of Cage9 who remain are: Evan Rodaniche (vocals/guitar) and Gustavo Aued (bass).
Band highlights:
Cage9 has shared the stage with Seether (& special guest Amy Lee of Evanescence), ex-Smashing Pumpkins guitarist James Iha, Buck Cherry, Depswa, Spineshank, Adema as well as with actor/musician Keanu Reeves and his current band Becky. Cage9 has also opened for Cheap Trick, Journey, and 38 Special in Panama's National Stadium.
Cage9's CD "El Motivo" is in rotation on XM Satellite Radio and two songs have been on XM's 'Most Played' ("Hearts & Stars" and "Hollywood Car Crash").
Cage9 is on BMG Music Publishing and their music can be heard on the trailer for last summer's "Dukes of Hazzard" movie. The band has also been heard on FX's popular cop drama "The Shield," and Stephen J. Cannell's movie "Demon Hunter." The track "Breaking Me Down" from El Motivo is featured in the major motion picture "American Pie: Band Camp."
The band was recently mentioned in Billboard Magazine as well as in Rolling Stone Magazine (Latin America) where Cage9's last E.P. received a cool 3.5 star review. Between 2001 and 2004 at Panama Rock's annual awards show, Cage9 won 'Best Alternative Band' twice, as well as 'Song of the Year' (for "Sick of It"). Cage9's lead singer/guitarist, Evan Rodaniche, also won 'Best Male Vocal,' and
'Artista Destacado de Rock Panamameno.'
