Bio / Background
Why this? Why now? To tell the truth, I haven't a clue. I guess it's just my time. As a kid I had a hankering to play guitar and sing. On Saturdays my mom would take us kids to Woolworths and I'd parade up and down the aisles singing something like the Marine Corp Hymn-my father was a marine in WWII. Somewhere along the line I got my first guitar, a Harmony, and lessons from Otto Ninow, my now departed music teacher. Next, it was small bands and combos, starting at 15 years of age playing at churches, firehouses, weddings, private parties, dives, clubs, Elks, Moose, all around the east end of Long Island. Then frat parties at Delhi and Cornell Universities. From 1971-1975 I went to veterinary school in the Philippines, where I continued to play and sing in hotels and bars.
↓ more ↓A few years after returning from the Philippines, I renewed an old relationship with a teenage band buddy and went back to playing in country clubs, clubs and weddings until 1984,when I had had enough of that scene. I dropped out of music until about 6 years ago when I was talking to a client and dear friend,(Steve Luongo) in my office not realizing WHO he was or what he had done or WHO he played with. Steve offered me an opportunity to record in his home studio. So, one tune led to another and now I have my first body of work. Laurie, Steve's wife, at first didn't think I would do it, but I did! Nothing fancy or new, just my own stuff. I would like to thank my second grade teacher(whose name escapes me) for that second place prize(a music book) in a poetry contest that inspired me to write my own music. Well, 48 years later, at 55, I hope to honor her in this way. Thanks in advance for your support and I hope you enjoy the CD. Special thanks to my late mother for giving me a voice, my father for paying for the axe lessons, the musicians that I've had the honor of playing with over the years(John Seally,Sherrod Smith, Bruce Dinsmore, Frank Skretch, Dave Ostertag, Artie Davis, Red ???, Ted Waldron, King Charles, Richie Mecca, JJ Kasofski, many Filipinos whose names I can't recall), friends, neighbors, and relatives who have encouraged me over the last 5 years to get this project done. Speial thanks to the new musicians in my life ie Godfrey Townsend for getting me back performing live, Mark Hitt for new licks, and Steve Luongo for without his help this project would not have been completed and as good as I believe it is. Thanks, Bro. Last but not least, special, special thanks to my partner of over thirty years, my wife, Irene. She put up with a lot of stuff(and still does)!
You should know that 50% of the proceeds go to AWI(the Animal Welfare Institute) rated A by AIP(American Institute of Philanthropy). The other 50% is going to the next CD which is in the cooker. Hopefully it will be out by the end of the year(2004). Later, MMB(MangyMilkBone)
