Somewhere between Bob Dylan and the Flaming Lips, with a dose of Pop for good measure.
Bio / Background
Bob Smith is a songwriter who blends Rock, Country, and Pop into his own distinctive sound. His songs are stories of excess and reform, of the folly of ego and the humility of redemption. They are questions posed by an everyman still looking for answers.
In the 1980's Bob played Velvet Underground and Replacements cover songs for free beer with his band The Distractions, at any keg party that would let them in the door. The 1990's brought the experimental rock/jazz/ska ensemble Shu. As the front man and primary songwriter Bob traveled the East Coast in an endless string of gigs. The popular college-circuit group pushed all of its members to height of their musical abilities, and to the depths of their character.
By 1997 Shu imploded. The years since have brought marriage, sobriety, and fatherhood to Bob's previously self-indulgent life. It has also proven to be an exceptionally creative time.
↓ more ↓He has produced three solo albums, one Shu reunion album, a weekly newspaper column, magazine work, and some influential internet development for the music industry. All along, he wrote songs.
This collection comes from a man making music and living his life.
