Personal songs in an acoustic and electric setting
Bio / Background
This record is a follow up to my 2003 release, "Decline And Fall Of John Q Sportcoat". It is filled with songs that I was writing at the same time with the notable exception that most of the other songs (the ones in "Decline And Fall...") were all kind of standard rockers and this record is very personal, interior, and is more concerned with relationships, death, family, God. The writing stems directly from a near fatal accident I had in Europe in 2001, and the songs reflect that sense of transition, loss, facing mortality. I also delve into my relationships with my immediate family in a couple of the songs, as well as inserting 2 versions of a gospel song - one at full fidelity as well as an abbreviated, choked down version that will sound familiar to anyone who is familiar with old 78's. "It Gets Weirder Every Year" is kind of a sit-in-the-dark-and-have-a-stiff-drink kind of record.
