Gospel Blues/Rock music from the Heart for the Soul.
Bio / Background
A group of gifted and talented musicians whose sound can best be described as "Christian Blues with a Roots/ Rock, Funk/Jive feel."
Think "Little Feat" meets Muddy Waters with a touch of Stanley Clark and you have hit it pretty closely.
There are tasty hooks, a powerful "groove", tight musical moves and sometimes throaty, sometimes soaring vocals, which all connect to create an atmosphere of sheer joy for both the listener and the band.
So how do we get from here to Faith Based Blues? That shouldn't sound funny. As a matter of fact, Mississippi John Hurt, Gary Davis, Fred McDowell, Robert Wilkins and many Blues greats have been singing about God for a long, long time. Being raised where he was, playing Blues was a musical requirement for Large Al. Having come to God for salvation and forgiveness in his late twenties, and having lived in the joy of that discovery ever since, singing the Blues for Jesus is just the right thing to do...
↓ more ↓This CD "Not What You Think" contains songs that work through lots of different styles and "feels" of the Blues.
There is the finger-popping swing tune, "Dead Man Walking" and the jazzy ditty "Confusing Pleasure Trap". There is sweet solid Chicago style blues in "See the Light or Feel the Heat", "Out of Control", "Weighed in the Balance" along with uptempo gospel style of "Joy". There is slide guitar blues on Robert T Wilkins' "Prodigal Son" and torch style blues on "Came & Bled & Died". Funk is showcased in a rock approach on "Spiritual Warfare", and in a blues approach on "Twistin' in the Wind". Finally we work our way towards good ol' rock & roll in the song "Strong" and add punch to what we are doing by reworking the Stones' classic "Sympathy for the Devil" with the added twist of having No Sympathy for ol' slewfoot..
Finally the lyrics... ahh yes.. what do we mean by faith based.. Let me spell it out.. It's about the Truth, you might wanna call this "Truth Blues." Here's what we believe, and we think you will probably agree.
-There is such a thing as right and wrong.
-That living right and "believing in God" ought to fit together.
-That no human being has any more or less value than any other human being.
-That defining "sin" is a matter between you and God, and is really not anyone else's business!!
-That God's gonna be there for you, no matter what.
-That He loves you, no matter what.
-That He's proven His love by kicking the gates of hell open from the inside out.
-And finally, most importantly, that not one single human being has got it all together, or has got it all figured out. Those who think they do are the biggest liars of all, because they are lying to themselves.
Always remember . . .
"the Truth will set you Free!"
