Bio / Background
Big Hands Colvin.
Overnight Low The much anticipated follow-up to "Real Strong Stuff" hits consistent highs. In the title track, Colvin sings about the time he "rode his thumb" across country. The horn section shines here, but the story is the thing and Colvin tells it masterfully. Autobiographical songs carry the listener along, including the inspired "Destiny" and the darker, jazz-influenced, "Still Ready", where Colvin remembers driving his father home from the local bars as a child. Ultimately though, it's tracks 7 and 8 that might show Big Hands at his best. "Heaven" features Colvin's smoky vocals, and some of the record's heaviest lyrics, and "Diamonds in the Sand" moves like a modern spiritual, riding Colvin's voice and the incredible fiddle of guest artist, Julie Beaver.
Colvin has been on the road too long for overnight success, but with Overnight Low he continues to establish himself as one of the more interesting independent singer-songwriters around.
