Influenced by the region of western Kentucky, 'Welcome to the Atomic City' has elements of country, bluegrass, old-time, rock and roll, blues, and classical forms of music.
Bio / Background
Established in late 2004, The Mash was bawn from a mixture of darkfire tobacco smoke and gourd-dust in the hills of Western Kentucky. Two and ten months later, they were in a downtown Paducah antique store when they discovered 'Wes Kaintuck and the Atomic City Rambler's' legendary 1967 recording, 'O Paducah Where Art Thou?'. Convinced they should try to contact the reclusive Kaintuck, the Mash reached their musical idol at the right time- Wes Kaintuck was planning his first tour in 20 years, and hired Bawn in the Mash to be his backing band. Several months on the road with Kaintuck taught the Mash many things- and helped cement their tight vocal harmonies, experimental instrumentation, and thoughtful lyrics into an unmistakable sound.
Bawn in the Mash convey emotion and feeling, song and dance, and laughter and sadness to the listeners mind by using traditional stringband instruments played in a style that is uniquely their own, but influenced by many.
↓ more ↓Their first release, 'Welcome to the Atomic City (2006)', was produced by 2003 National Old Time Banjo Champion and 5-Time Tennessee Old Time Banjo Champion, Colonel Dan Knowles (Paris, Tennessee). 'Welcome to the Atomic City' is a collection of original acoustic compositions that both historically interprets and fictitiously describes events that could have occured during the past 150 years around Western Kentucky. Regarded for their high energy live performances, Bawn in the Mash have been spreading the word like mollasses across this big biscuit which we call Earth. Dancers gather round, kick off yr shoes, and boogie down to the sounds of Bawn in the Mash.
