Bio / Background
The story:
The town of Balthrop, Alabama was founded in 1847 in Alabama's Iron Belt. It was a booming steel town for its first 100 years or so, but these days it has relaxed into an easier pace, home to a close-knit community of shopowners, innkeepers, handymen, farmers, students, and a milkman. Visitors to Balthrop are welcomed with big hellos and warm smiles. Please do come!
The truth:
The band Balthrop, Alabama was formed in early 2006 in Brooklyn, New York by Alabama-born songwriter-siblings Pascal and Lauren Balthrop and eight or nine of their musically-inclined neighbors. Their double-deluxe debut album, Your Big Plans & Our Little Town will be released on End Up Records on June 26th, 2007. As a band, their main goal is to be the 12th-best band in Brooklyn. Beyond that, it's cake.

Balthrop, Alabama may not really have an affection for southern sensibility, based on some comments I read online...manfromearth wrote on June 14, 2009
thankfully, most of their music isn't too politically tinged, otherwise, that kind of condescension would be a big turn off for me. Musically, this indie sounding group has a dreamy mystique that is wonderfully captured by a near 10 or so band members.
